First of all.
Timing belt broke. Anyone know how much or reliable a used engine would be for a 98 eclipse gs. Non turbo. I don't know my DSM so well as to say what the model number of the engine is, but just the standard 2.0 liter for those model years. |

It's not a dsm motor. It's the same 2.0 DOHC that was in the high end Dodge Neon.

Also, if you need someone to install it, I would look up our very own mike93hatch, he is quite reasonable and I would trust him with anything car related.

I have it out at Thoenen shop in Elston atm while I decide what to do. Looks like over 1.5k of work for a 2.5k at the most car. That is with a new timing belt, valves and labor with no real guarantee that the pistons or bottom end do not have a problem.

I added in the extra as the maybe warning for the further problems that may have been caused. New timing parts, valves and labor was the general off the cuff quote. Piston damage or bottom end damage being unknown. The car already lost plenty of oil in between changes, died at idle at it's own indiscretion (possible timing belt related? but for last 4 years) and just did weird shit. I'm not really saying this for any other reason other than while his price may be higher than someone is willing to do it for (and I'm not against letting someone else do it), he has worked on my car a few times and I've found his shop rates way lower than other shops while the work is the same or better. I guess I'm trying to slightly bump the shop and say I'm not adverse to saving dosh if someone is willing to look at it. ...weird. |
