I think i've only done four (on the street). Two were completely accidental, one of which was the longest I've ever ridden one out but was scary as hell. WOT in second gear at the crest of a hill is not a good idea (unless you're trying to wheelie) .

My first intentional resulted the same as yours. My next one, I damn near looped it, chopped the throttle shut and the front wheel slammed down as my nutz slammed into the tank. No more trying wheelies for me after that day.

My first offroad wheelie was completely accidental too. It was when I was working at Larry's. I was pulling a customers Kawi V-Force 700cc ATV in the shop. Damn thing would wheelie by barely touching the throttle. It happened to wheelie up over and around my scrawny ass, leaving me bleeding in the parking lot. That wasn't a fun repair bill. That plastic is eeeexpeeeensssivvveee.

Oh yeah, I clutched up an old beatup Ninja 250 when I was working at Tergins. That was fun.

I've got a video that came with one of my magazines a couple years ago. It's a "how to wheelie" video. I didn't find it very helpful, and I think the same video can be found on youtube. Unless you plan on doing slow speed stuff or stupid high speed stuff (80+ MPH), I'd stay away from clutchin' it up. Less wear and tear on the bike. I'd just practice 1st gear power wheelies by bouncing the front end and throttling at the same time. It's all about timing the bounce/throttle.

You'll get a lot of opinions from different people. Don't take my word, because I cant' do it either. I just have seen the beat to shit clutch baskets, plates, and cables of people that practiced clutching it up and didn't catch on either. If you can find your balance point by powering it up and playing with throttle control/rear brake control to ride it out, then start clutching it up. Just my 2 pennies.

Saw this post yesterday and appreciated the inspiration. Not only did I do two wheelies I got both tires off the ground as I left the highway to get on the county road that leads to my house this morning. Riding a V-twin, a wheelie is only a twist of the throttle away. The torque and the lifting of the front tire is almost instantaneous. Jumping a bike is not something that I wouldn't recommend doing unless your bike has the suspension to handle it. I wasn't air-borne very long, but a 400+ pound bike is not supposed to be that way.

I wanted to try one on the ride today, but I was preoccupied with dodging birds, cicadas, and Trans Am's.

Its easy to power wheelie. Just hit throttle and pull back~

I don't check the forum for a few weeks and all of a sudden my "other half" has become the next member of Wild Hogs and has mad wheelie tricks....geesh, I'm so out of the loop.

*pretty sure I overlooked the health insurance bill this month. we're young and healthy, right?*

a_a It is about time you checked back in with us!

Was in a bit of a hurry tonight and pulled one in 3rd gear as I headed home over stadium on highway 54 East. I am usually more of a 2nd gear guy, but I had an opening in the traffic and made the best of it.
