The difference in power from the US and Euro version may be able to be bypassed like the 05-06 ZX6r by jumping two pins on the ECU. Just a little change in the mapping to meet the US emissions crap.
As far as Kawi running out of ideas - they are going for performance and aerodynamics first and worrying about aesthetics second. Yamaha figured out that was a decent design a few years before Kawi is all. Of course they could make it look totally awesome and throw performance out the window just so people could look "cool" on it when they say they ride a "NINJA" but personally, I'd rather have a bike that performs.

You and about 3% of the sport bike population. Kidding!
I kind of agree, but imagine all the goodies in the new ZX10 shoved into something that looked like the mid 00's Ninja 500. I'll go ahead and pick up a GSXR, thank you That being said, they're not gonna put their flagship ride into a chassis that ugly so the point is moot. It's true, the literbikes are balls to the wall, high performace sportbikes and if you buy the "pretty" one and take it to the track and get lapped a few dozen times you may think twice about your purchase.
