Default ???'s about carrying a concealed weapon in the State of Missouri...

When I move to Missouri in December I have some things i need answered real quick about carrying a concealed weapon in your state. I am legally able to carry a concealed weapon and have a license in the state of Washington. Missouri is a state that does reconize my license. But I have some un-answered questions that I couldn't find.

So my 3 questions are:

1. When stopped or detained by a LEO do I have to immetiadly notify the LEO that I have a concealed weapon in Missouri? Here in Washington we do not have to notify the LEO. (Even though I know it's a good idea) with that aside, I just would like to be able to find and know the law on it.

2. When you notify the LEO or he knows you have a concealed weapon does he have the legal right to take your weapon and detain/hold it until your interaction with the LEO is over? Here in Washington a LEO can not detain/hold your weapon just because he wants to. You must be in violation, being charged, or deemed a threat(obvious) for a LEO to be able to hold/take your weapon in Washington.

3. Is Missouri a open carry state?

If you have the answer to the questions can you give me the links on the laws for them? These were the only ones that I couldn't find during my research on the subject.

4-pager with quick facts
http://www.mshp.dps.mo.gov/MSHPWeb/P...ts/SHP-863.pdf

This has more information but since i'm not a big guns guy i can't really validate this info:

Missouri Gun Laws - What are the Gun Laws in Missouri?

1.I believe its indicated on your license/ through your license plate number soo they would know if they ran either. I dont think you have to tell them.

2. i think its the same as Washington

3.Yes, some cities my have ordinances prohibiting it though

You will probably have to take the ccw class again when you get here.

1. Personally I tell the LEO when stopped that I have a ccw. I show them my I.D. first before I even show my drivers liscense.

2. Some have taken mine back to their cars and others have not. Most of the time they just want to see it and hold it if it's something they don't own.

If you take the class again they will be able to answer all your questions. If you do go through Bass Pro in Columbia or I can get you signed up through a shop I work at part time.

It is not coded into your liscense plate. You can have the ccw put on your drivers liscense but I don't recommend it. Get a separate I'd for your ccw. When you go to the doctor or gas station to buy alcohol and get carded or carded at a bar or anywhere else that asks for I D's does not need to know you are carrying.

I do know for sure that I do not have to take the class. I never had to take a class anyways here in Washington, but Missouri does not require me too. They reconize mine already.

Also I've read that in Missouri they give you a 2nd I.D. (Non-Driving, I.D only) for the Concealed Carry. I also will not have to get that since I will be a Washington State I.D holder and a Spouse of a Military Member. Again I've been able to find a lot on carrying concealed in your state, just besides the 3 questions.

I know personally that a lot of people will notify a LEO 1st thing, but I just want to know the law on it in your state and to be sure that what I'm doing is legal.

And in Washington they can not take your weapon from you just because they want to. They passed that law here, just because they are Officers they are not trained and know about every kind of weapon, so what was happening officers we're trying to clear people's weapons and had neglegent dis-charges. This is a law I agree on. I do not want someone touching my weapon just because they think they know it all, but if it's the law in Missouri, then it's the law.

Sorry I read your post wrong. The wife was bugging me and miss read that Missouri DOES reconize yours. I'm pretty sure they can't just take it unless they feel threatened by you having it on your possession during the traffic stop. I'm pretty sure it's not a law that you have to tell the LEO about your ccw but around here it makes the traffic stops a whole heck of a lot easier to get through without a ticket when you tell them first thing. You can watch their mood change instantly. Some even get giddy.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I know it's a very good idea to notify a LEO first thing. I did the LEO thing for a bit here in Washington so I can relate, but on the same note, if a person is not required too by law, then they don't have to. If a LEO take offense to that or gets all agitated, then thats what court is for. I just want to make sure that I will be doing the right thing at all times when I start living in Missouri. And if the law does not require that the Officer can take my weapon then I can say no to one if they ask. I don't want one asking me "hey can I hold it" because they've never owned or seen what I have and act like it's some toy.

1 - you dont have to tell him, but i always have
2 - not sure if they are allowed or disallowed to by law, but the few times that I have, they have taken possession of the weapon until the end of the traffic stop, which is fine by me.
3 - yes

just an addendum, if you are in your car, you dont have to have any license, and there is no way in which you cant carry. (unless of course you would be prohibited from owning a firearm for some reason) In MO, car = house.

Im sure desmo will jump in here somewhere
