Whats wrong with the starter? Bad armature? Worn brushes? It can probably be rebuilt for cheap (~$10). Ill PM you a number to call to have it rebuilt.
Does it have a kicker on it now? If not, you're probably out of luck (unless you are super handy with a lathe and mill). If it has one, you just kick it. You will need a kill switch of some sort (pushbutton or toggle) as well as a main switch (ie Ignition switch/key switch). You will still need a battery just to stabilize the voltage that the alternator puts out. The battery doesn't have to be very big, or you can even use a capacitor that has screw terminals (10000uf, 25V minimum - the higher uf the smoother the voltage). I'll draw up a simple wiring diagram for minimum ignition wiring and post it up in a little while. Your lights/signals will still have to be wired though.
