this is what you need to do.

get one new std piston and a set of new std piston rings. tear block completely down. take block with girdle to PMI in jc and tell them you just want it deglazed/honed for some new rings. you will then need to size the piston ring end gaps. i have a ring filer you can borrow and also a plier type ring compressor...while this is all apart i would put new bearings in it, unless they just happen to look brand new...

No can do Kemo Sabe. Motorcycle engine parts availability is way different than cars. Besides - the cylinder is Nikasil coated. Honing it out will make things worse. The rings that you order are pre-gaped from the factory to fit the factory bore of the Nikasil plated cylinder. Very little excess ring to file off. Will have to be shipped to someone who can replate the cylinder.

Oh and the bearings are not listed by size - but by color or 0,1,2 etc. No publications list the actual dimensions of colored or numbered bearings. Huge PIA trying to use the service manual to figure what bearings are required.

Yea it is definantly a PIA but I've got my plan of action. Talked to George and just waiting on the stuff I ordered.

Everything is finally done and back together. I put all new rings, crank, and rod bearings in it. Going to feel good getting back on it after so long. Just need to break in the new rings and then hit some twisties again.

Glad to hear that you are making progress with this and I hope everything works out like it should.
