Default Rocksham's Yamaha bobber project

Okay, here goes. I bought this 650 maxim last month. It's an 82 with 39,xxx miles on it. It needed an oil/filter change bad. Also changed the differential fluid and brake fluid. Some of the brake fluid had changed to silly putty except black Ordered some misc. missing bolts, screws, nuts, etc from Cheap Motocycle parts. And got some new footpeg rubbers.

The PO had debadged and repainted the bike. I like the plain tank and side covers, but wanted the Yamaha cover for the fork brace and the Yamaha grab rail. So got them off e-Bay. Put on some new gel grips. Aahh lots better.

The air filter foam was toast, furnace filter fabric cut to size works great, and no noticable change in running.

The bike had a 11" shock vs the stock 12.5" shock. Cool, it really scoots around the corners. I love it lowered! Here's a pic.

Next as suggested in the intro forum, the banana seat goes solo. With the help of the hacksaw and carving knife. Pics to follow!

Earz, did you keep a box of parts you removed?

Yes, but I've sold some of it. What are you looking for?

Earz, I don't need anything right now, was just wondering. I might goof and need a piece to start over again on! It's looking pretty good though.

Below are pics of the seat slaughter and the rear frame hacksaw gone wild. Today I'm gonna get the rear fender back on. Got to ride to work tomorrow!

Thanks guys! I got the rear fender on so I can ride it, but it's gonna have to go. I had to put the brace part back on to stablize the fender. So it doesn't look too good. I'll have to think awhile and get the seat done. Then see what can be done. Probably a side plate holder and cat's eye turn signals.
