But while you are visiting the local shop you might want to invest in a set of good stands. They make cleaning and maintenance a lot safer and easier.

These are great because you can use them on the front or rear and you have something to strap the bike to (unlike a stand). Once strapped down, you can use a regular jack to lift the opposite end of the bike off the ground. The only disadvantage is not being able to remove both wheels at once.
