Here is my take on why more people with sport bikes don't run sport touring, or road compound tires.

The largest demographic of sport bike riders are young males, by far. Young males are victims of their own egos and the desire for bragging rights. That is why the fastest, lightest, ungodly fast, brain melting sport bike champion of the year in performance sells the best. Never mind that 98% of those who buy those bikes can't ride anywhere near the potential of that bike. Just like they like to brag about how bad-ass the magazines say their new bike is, they also want to be able to brag about the incredible grip capabilities of their expensive tire. I see a lot of DOT race tires on bikes around the area. Running DOT race tires around town and on back road rides is simply money thrown away, and likely is detrimental to good grip even if they needed it due to improper warm up. But, they can brag about having a bad ass tire! Funny that as long as they have the latest and greatest bike wearing the latest and greatest tire, no one seems to care that the tire is flat in the middle and still has nipples on the edges, or that the chain is loose, dry and/or rusty, the sprockets are worn to nubs, the oil hasn't been changed in two years, etc.

If you aren't riding like a completely insane racer boy wanna-be, and if you don't have ego issues, you should be completely fine on a sport touring tire.

2nd on what Desmo said - its just wouldn't be cool to have a sport touring tire on your race rep.

I sold/mounted bridgestones for Track Addixx for a couple seasons and used to get a crap load of take offs. I could sell shagged out dot race tires on ebay ALL DAY LONG - couple folks came straight out and told me "they just look the shit"

Thanks for the input guys, that gave me more confidence in a sport touring tire. I'll get one ordered and find out how they compare to a "sport" tire.
