Hey guys im getting ready to purchase a new set of tires for my cbr 600 was wondering what your guys' opinions were inbetween the Michelin Pilot Powers and the Shinko Stealths??? Which do you guys use or prefer? I used the pilot powers last year and they are a great all around tire, great in the corners or on a straight stretch. Just let me know your opinions. Thanks

When I see professionals running shinkos, I'll buy a set. Until then, my money is on name brand tires.

from my experience with the shinkos they are fine if you are not gonna push your bike at all. i have less than a full year of experience under my belt and i have reached the limitations of the shinkos that i have on my bike. my next set of tires are gonna be the bridgestone bt-016

Goo....the stealth is an ugly tire. Nit quite as bad as the podium but still. If you were selling your bike and wanted to sell it with new tires, I'd say go for shinkos - but do the ravens or ???(can't think of the other one).
If you're gonna ride it aggressively or mildly aggresive go with a name brand. You may check out the pirellis. Around the same price point as the shinkos but a much better tire.

I pushed a set of Pirelli Diablos pretty good on my 900SS on an Arkansas trip a few years ago. They are plenty confidence inspiring...until you wear them down to slicks! They weren't new when I went, but they were roasted by the last day. They stick well, but don't wear very long. That, of course, is the big trade-off we are stuck with. Very confidence inspiring and sticky or long life.
I have run a couple of sets of Avon Storms on my 999. They are a sport-touring compound, and wear longer. I never had any issues with grip on spirited street rides, but they were not up to the task when pushed at the track. I think I was a bit foolish to try...they are just too hard for track use. Ideally, I would have two sets of wheels...one set for soft track tires and one set for harder road tires. Continentals are getting great reviews and are supposed to be pretty reasonable, but I haven't shopped for prices. The track instructors at Hallett run them (they are sponsored by Continental).

I run set of the sport attack's on the R1 and really like them. Excellent grip, great response, and IMO a good looking tire. I would recommend them. I will be purchasing the pilot's for the CBR.

I would buy better quality tires than the Shinko's unless your budget dictates that.
Years ago I needed a new back tire and I cheeped out and it ended up costing more money. The cheep tire wore out faster and I had to spend extra time in the shop swapping tires out. |

Whenever you are going around a corner on your bike do you think to urself, "Man, i'm glad i got these cheaper tires" Answer: NO!!! You don't think about stuff like that when your riding. To me its like saying "Do i wanna risk my bike and possibly my life just to save a couple of dollars on some tires." Sure don't. Fork up the $$$ and get something you trust so there are no worries. Plan and simple
