i've recently been looking at a fancier helmet, and i have come to find out that there are way too many brands/styles with variant features and somesuch.
I used a GMax helmet for a week or so, then went to Icon. The icon helmet is quite nice, but i'm not sure how it compares to the fancier brands. The true thing i'm wanting is noise reduction. Second (a close second) is comfort. Third & Final part i want is an awesome paint job/design on one! Here's a pic of one i've been stalking.

do you wear ear plugs with your current helmet?

You wont find better, brighter colors than Suomy. I have had all of the big brands and really like my Arai.
In order to get the perfect fit you need to go try them on somewhere. I would suggest Motorcycle Closeouts in KC (by the airport.) |

I am currently using a Suomy. I would buy another one, but I am looking for a different style of helmet.

i usually do. I want one that i can custom-design speakers into so that way my "ear plugs with wires" don't have to be used anymore. Ryoung gave me some tips on audio-friendly ear plugs with some tips from Earz. If i'm going under 50 mph (city riding) i dont, but ALWAYS on the highway.

typically your high end racer reps will sacrifice noise for weight.
personally, i think its a horrible idea to to add the additional noise levels with music/audio/phone. the volume needed to get over the road noise is significant. then add the distraction on top of everything else. sustained noise equals fatigue decreasing reaction/alertness not just my opinion |

I own Suomy and Arai. Suomy is by far the most comfortable and quietest helmet I've worn. The only downside to the Suomy is the lack of an "ear-hole". My wingnut like attributes require a little extra room than most. This is what makes the helmet quieter. It helps block any noise that may try to get to your eardrum - similar to holding your hand over your ear. The Arai has cutouts which allow my ears to spread out and not be smashed against my head - which is much more natural for me.
I have a medium and a large Suomy that you're welcome to try on to see how they fit. The large is practically new, but the medium is broke in a bit. My Arai is a medium as well. My schedule is a little hectic, but PM me if you'd like to see how they fit/feel.

I have an older Shoei that I use and love. I added a chin curtain to my helmet and it reduced wind noise by over half. Maybe look into helmets with chin curtains. Or a helmet that has chin curtains available for them.

Earz i might take you up on the fitting offer. I know i'm stuck between med/lrg usually. Usually have the most free time on weekends but i'll let ya know!
Valentino Rossi needs his own artistic brand. I LOVE his whacky taste in styles :P |
